Gutters, Soffits & Downspouts – Soffits (overhangs) need to be adequately extended to avoid splashing on the siding and drainage problems that could lead to water in the basement. Gutters and downspouts should be complimented with a positive grade around the house so that surface drainage is directed away from the foundation. This is the #1 cause of moisture in the basement of a new home so make sure it is done correctly.
