Building A New Home – Interior Components – Part 6

Painting & Wallpapering – If you’re thinking of doing the interior painting yourself, think twice before taking on a project that reflects the final craftsmanship of the home. Rules of thumb and old painting habits do not apply to new construction painting. The painter needs to know how to work with the trades people to stay out of each others’ way. Know the paint products and choose specific colors but leave painting to the pros.

Hardware & Interior Doors – Another area where cost-cutting can bring regrets down the road is interior doors, knobs and hardware. These are moving part mechanisms that will be under long term daily use and “monthly specials” are usually special for the wrong reason. Try to select doors, hardware and mirrors that match your home’s esthetic style and are within the means of the home’s total value.

Summary – The process of building a new home involves a test of your will and your communication skills. The more you educate yourself about the process and the more you know about the components going into your home before they are installed, the better off you’ll be. Be an informed consumer; it’s your job when building a new home!
