In Part 1 we talked about several things to consider when looking
to purchase new carpet. Here are some other carpet facts:
With respect to carpet color, different dye lots used in the manufacture
may cause your carpeting to be a slightly different shade than the
sample you selected. This is normal and should be expected.
Due to the nature of the manufacturing process, most prints and
multi-tone patterns are impossible to match. The longer the seam,
the greater the chance that the pattern will be off. Most carpeting is
12 feet in width but some are available in 13.5 ft and 15 ft widths.
Therefore, it is almost inevitable that you will find a seam in your
carpeting. Today’s heat bonded seams are very strong but they
are not invisible.
The backing on carpeting has a rough texture and almost always
will leave light scratches on soft painted woodwork. Touch up
paint should be available for these areas. If your woodwork is
stained, a conventional furniture polish will remove these scratches.
Finally, frequent vacuuming adds life to your carpet as dirt and sand
can be very abrasive and destroy carpet fibers.
Enjoy your new carpeting!!
